Fletchling Crochet Pattern

Absolutely loving all the Pokemon news coming out! Here's a little Fletchling to make while you wait not so patiently for October to get here. And did you see what this little guy evolves into? I love it! Pattern and more pics after the break!

The following pattern was written and designed by me and is copyrighted. You may not sell or reproduce this pattern in any way. Do not claim this pattern or plush as your own design. You may not sell this pattern. You may not sell what you make from this pattern. Please respect this, I spent a very long time designing this plush and pattern, there is a great deal of effort and love put into this. Thank you very much for your understanding.
Read pattern carefully before starting, particularly the instructions at the beginning of the pattern. There are also many tips throughout the pattern that will help you when making different pieces, be sure to read those too! Pictures at the end of the pattern will help with sewing stuff on.
Body is about 5 1/2 inches long, not including the tail or the beak, he's maybe robin sized.

Materials:

* Red orange yarn

*Black yarn
*White yarn
*Small amount yellow yarn

* Light gray yarn
*Large yarn needle for sewing pieces together

*Fiberfill/stuffing

**Optional: beans, rice, or plastic beads & pantyhose (for weight, more info after body pattern)

*G hook and F hook

*Straight pins for pining pieces on before sewing them on

Note: there is no gauge for this pattern. The only thing that is important is that you have a tight stitch when crocheting so that no stuffing will show through the finished pieces. If you use the recommended hooks it should be fine but if you are someone who crochets more loosely you may want to reduce the hook size accordingly.

This pattern is worked in rounds (unless otherwise noted) and may use any of the following techniques/abbreviations:
Sc- single crochet
inc- increase
dec- decrease, particularly you should use the invisible decrease if you know how to do it
sc in each sc- single crochet in each single crochet, don't add any increases or decreases
R- round or row

hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
Repeat (*)- repeat what is between the asterisks * until you come to the end of the round, unless otherwise indicated
ring- magic ring. If you cannot do this technique then you may substitute this: ch 2 and sc however many were supposed to go in the ring into the second ch. However this will leave a small hole in the piece, this is why the magic ring is preferred, it leaves no visible hole. Many tutorials on how to do the magic ring are available online.

The numbers in parenthesis at the end of each row are the number of stitches you should have when that row is done. Mark the start of each round with a marker and move this marker as you complete rows.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

All pieces (unless otherwise indicated) are worked with TWO strands of yarn together. You may do this by taking the strand on the outside of the skien and the one which comes from the inside of the skien together. Crochet with two strands the same way you would crochet if you had only one. This will yield a bigger plush faster and with less effort than crocheting with only one strand. This pattern has not been tested for only one strand and pieces such as the eyes would need to be adjusted for size on your own.

Other imp note for Fletchling: for stuff like the wings, tail pieces, legs, ect if you leave a really long tail of yarn when you start and when you end, you'll be able to weave it through the piece and hide it in the body of the plush. Optional but makes for a cleaner plush.

Head (Make in Red orange, with 2 strands of yarn and G hook)
Round1- 6 sc in ring (6)
R2- *inc* (12)
R3- * sc, inc* (18)
R4- *2 sc, inc* (24)
R5-11- sc in each sc (24)
We're going to stop working in the round now and just do some partial rows.
Row12- slip stitch, ch 1, turn, sc 12, slip stitch (you aren't going all the way around anymore, this part will sort of be the neck part. This side gets sewn toward the chest)
Row13- repeat row 12.
So you should have two rows of 12 stacked on top of each other to make one side a little longer, this makes the head sit a little better.

Body (make in light gray with 2 strands of yarn and G hook)
You might want to weight the tail part a little, put some beans, rice, plastic pellets in part of a nylon stocking and tie it shut. Put this in the plush first then stuff. Totally optional but might help him sit up a little better.
You're starting at the tail.

R5-7- sc in each sc (8)
R8- 3 increases, evenly spaced, sc in rest (11)
Stuff tightly and leave long tail for sewing

Legs (Make 2 w G hook and 2 strands of black)
For this you will chain the leg part then use short chains you will then sc across to make the toes. If you're really motivated you could make the legs out of wire so it stands.
Ch 17.
sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 (3 sc, leave rest unworked)
Ch4 again and sc 3 to make the other toe, slip stitch to join to main part of leg.
For back toe, ch 3 and sc 2, slip stitch to main part of foot.

You can make stuff like the eyes ect with felt if that's your thing.

Eyes (Fhook, 1 strand of black)
CH 4, we'll be working in the round, crocheting around the starting chain
R1- inc, sc, put 3 sc in next sc, sc, sc in the first sc (so it now has 3 sc in it)
R2- 3 sc in first sc, sc, sc, sc, 3sc in next sc, sc, sc, sc, slp stitch

When you sew the eye on, sew it on part way then embroider the yellow eye part and sew the eye on the rest of the way.
